Assignment: Create a Poster

Need/Want:

Our first Scholastic Book Fair of the year is quickly coming! Your assignment is to create a poster advertising this event.

Design Brief:

You will use Microsoft Publisher to create a poster advertising our school's Scholastic Book Fair.
Your poster must have a Halloween or Fall theme or the "Enchanted Forest" theme promoted by Scholastic.
Your poster must be created on 8.5x11 (letter) or 8.5x14 (legal) paper.
Your poster may be in the landscape or portrait orientation.
You will use graphics found on the Internet and text to advertise the Book Fair.
You will include all necessary information.
A potential reader of your poster must be able to get all the required information within 5-10 seconds of seeing the poster.

Best Solution:

Your solution to this problem must be saved as an image file and published on the "Basic Skills" page of your Communication Technology website.

Saving as a .png:

First, save your file in Publisher. This will save it as a .pub file. Only Publisher can edit this type of file.
Then, go to "File" -> "Export" -> and "Change File Type".
Choose either the .PNG or .JPG under image file types. Take note where it saves your file.

Publishing on your web page:

Go to Google Sites and open your website
Click on the "Pages" tab and go to the "Basic Skills" page
Click on the "Insert" tab, click on "images" and choose "Upload". Find the file you saved and upload it. Make sure you upload the .png or .jpg file (it should have a little icon of flowers in front of it) and not the .pub file.

A good poster:

considers the audience - this is a K-7 school, therefore, all images must be appropriate for small children.
is eye-catching and grabs people’s attention (pictures and some kind of slogan to make people want to buy books)
presents the information in an organized way that makes it easy to find the information you want
allows you to read the information while walking slowly past the poster
